»I see«

by Laura Arman

Don't let a man tell you who you ought to be,
and don't let society stop you from being free,
Don't let that pressure exceed your expectations,
And don't let others choose their own depictions,
Don't let your past freeze you from moving forward,
And don't let your unruly choices move you downward,
Don't let your afflictions overcome your strength,
And don't keep your life at arms length,
Don't let your rage be what you become,
And don't let those dreams revel undone.
Don't stand still because you are afraid,
And don't closet yourself because your life isn't made,
Don't lament because I'm not there,
And don't regret what wasn't fair.

Because I see in you what others don't see,
I see more than a little bit of beauty,
I see someone who always tries to please,
Who makes us laugh, in our times of need.
I see someone who has candor in his heart,
Even though he's not sure of his own part,
I see someone with an anchor so strong,
That doesn't float when it needs to carry on,
I see someone who doesn't look back,
But moves forward on the due track,
I see someone who valiantly fights,
Even if they think he's at fault, but he knows he's right,
I see someone who bothers not just for himself,
But lends that extra hand to serve everybody else,
I see someone who loves with every breath,
Even though he's shaken half to death,
I see someone who respects what he has,
And doesn't take for granted what might not last,
I see someone who searches for the best,
Even when he can't see that there's anything left.

I see someone whose hopes are not just dreams,
And this is someone I will always believe in.

  •  Happy Mhlongo: "Go Laura it great, yes, I agree with you not to let anyone stop you from puseing your dreams. And if sumone's hopes are not just dreams which means are reality, are the one that will lift him/her up, those are the hopes that will build her and see the future with dignity and courage. So much I can see about this poem, WELL done Laura"
  •  Hettie Van Zyl: "thanks for a heartwarming poem it is a lesson for all of us to see the good in others even if nobody else see it T"
