»Boxed Up«

by Laura Arman

The clouds are thickening
amongst a wind so chill,
and I am here leaving
an intensified other world,
but I leave behind a memory
that I've packed up in a box,
sealed many times over
because I'm too afraid to lock.

A drop forms
on the window sill,
where we once
sat to spill,
the edges of our hearts
and lives we knew so well,
the grace that surrounded this room
an unenchanting spell.

The drops they turn to drizzle
on the window pane,
to wipe away the images
that may torment me again,
and you, you see nothing
but a deserted room,
but I, I see everything
that could have bloomed.

Now the rain is gushing
like the tears of my heart,
you take away the boxes
and then we are to part,
and wrapped up in little sections
of torn bubble wrap,
are your remarks and exploits
that I'll never forget.

The thunder is calling
low and deep,
as you drive me away
from my haven I wish to keep,
I yearned for forever
but you drove on,
and left me with never
and a box of your songs.
