»Smiles and passing glances, thoughts of a Dark Poet«

by Byron Coetzee

Some things I wish I could say
like pages in book unable to be read
thoughts fighting to find a place in my brain
All these things weigh on me.

But smiles and passing glances
simple momentous of beautiful days
things to me are precious
because there's hope inside those stares

I am just a soulful poet
with my thoughts that rack my brain
but in those moments, bound forever
lives the hope that I once felt

I sit here and I ponder
is there purpose in my rhyme?
is there a message for the readers
that will inspire them to feel

I have no pre planned message
I have no purpose for this rhyme
but u know what I hold precious
is just the thought I feel inside

That hope will burn forever
in those glances and those smiles
that one day things will get better
and I'll feel like I can smile

For darkness overshadows
and it kills the dream inside
but if a smile can light the darkness
there is a purpose for this rhyme.

So I ask you take a moment
and you think of those in doubt
those who have been blackened by the darkness of our lives
I ask you make an effort to spread some smiles into the world

For to us who walk in Darkness, it is the tiniest bit of hope.
