»The bonds of flesh«

by Byron Coetzee

We who break the bonds of flesh
and carry deep our ties of regret
are bound to things you cannot see
like all the love we wished would be

For we are all but simple beings
who find a way to live our dreams
for we who walk this world so cold
will always seem to be alone

So as I write these words of pain
and think of those that changed my faith
for all the things I cannot say
I write the words to speak my brain

For bonds of flesh are all we have
to remind us that we feel the same
For in my soul. This poet has
the love of life, and deep regrets.
