»Blessings«
I remember when I was but a child,
I had freckles and hair curly and wild.
I used to pray to God every day
Not to let me grow up looking this way.
The nuns at school maintained that it was true
To each of us God's given a virtue -
Some of us are clever and very wise,
While others have beautiful hair or eyes.
But all I'd think of in my misery,
Was why God had given nothing to me.
Then, as the years went gradually past
I began to see my blessings at last -
A husband, a home and children so fair
Were given to me for my loving care.
I worked hard at being a mother and wife,
And truly lead a most virtuous life.
However, bubbles burst – and so did mine
When I found out I had married a swine.
Now you may think how wrong a nun can be
But I still have my children who love me.
So what she said is definitely true:
Everyone is blessed...even me and you.

Were given to me for my loving care.

And truly lead a most virtuous life.
However, bubbles burst – and so did mine
When I found out I had married a swine.
Now you may think how wrong a nun can be
But I still have my children who love me.
So what she said is definitely true:
Everyone is blessed...even me and you.
