»Dear child, flesh of my flesh«

by Shirley Joan Von Weichardt

My dearest child, flesh of my flesh, how my heart has bled!
Do I vainly try to get into your troubled head?
Why can't you understand? – It's the bad things that you do -
It's the tempers and the tantrums that we hate – not you!
Believe me when I tell you that love will conquer all -
Just love yourself and pray that the Lord will heed your call.
You really have the power to control your own life -
You can choose to fill it with love or fill it with strife.
"What you give is what you get" is all you need to know -
Treating others with respect will make them love you so.
Ev'ry night I pray that God will fill you with His love -
That His light will shine on you with blessings from above.
My prayers will be answered – I believe that to be true -
Then the loving child you are, will surely surface through.
