»Family Portrait«

by Laetitia Smith

If only she could go back and kill those words she uttered.
She's so sorry,
But you say it never mattered.

What she says,
Would only bring more pain to wounds you'd much rather have forgotten.

Everything you every had was always bruised by her,
So even if she begs and pleads,
Forgiveness seems absurd.

You've been through this too many times,
Her "I'm so sorry"
Only undermines
Your trust in her
So there, she's out of the picture.

No more lies,
No more scars,
Only an empty space where her face once was.
