»The Last Word«

by Casey Samantha Boshoff

As you look down
Upon my pale face,
As you watch
And see me lying lifeless,
I can't help wonder,
What could have been of us?

If you and I
Had just stopped fighting,
If you and I
Had just started loving,
Would I still be there?

If you had just
Held me in your arms,
If you had just
Showed me you cared,
Would I still be there?

If I had just
Not shouted at you,
If I had just
Not stormed off from you,
Would I still be there?

If you had just
Said you were sorry,
If I had just
Waited for a reply,
Would I still be there?

As you look down
Upon my pale face,
As you watch
And see me lying lifeless,
Can you help wonder,
What could have been of us?
