»They«

by Casey Samantha Boshoff

They search for me
Just like the detectives,
They follow me
Just like the shadows,
They watch me
Just like the scavengers,
Yet
They don't hurt me
Just like you do.

They utter the words
That crush my spirit,
They whisper the lies
That break me down,
They sing the tunes
That build my walls,
Yet
They don't hurt me
Just like you do.

They don't abandon me
Unlike my friends do,
They don't laugh at me
Unlike my enemies do,
They don't torture me
Unlike the bullies do,
Yet
They don't love me
Just like you do.

They hug me
Unlike my teddies do,
They listen to me
Unlike my fans do,
They help me
Unlike the doctors do,
Yet
They don't love me
Just like you do.

They are
The demands that surround me,
The angels that protect me,
You are
The person who hurts me,
And the man who loves me,
You are
Nothing like them...
