»Single«

by Ryan Gordon Penn

Oh look at her over there standing all alone, No one on her arm
The one she chose was in the green, but only caused her harm
He drove the right car, Had the right Job and to match, a fancy place
But he also clenched his fist at times and drove it through her face
He used to beat her so bad that she had to wear make up before attending a party...to mingle
This my friends is the story of many a girl who is in a relationship, but single!

They smile and joke and tell you they are really happy, All is well
If you close your eyes and hold her, you would feel the loudness of her yell
If only people knew how you were feeling, If only you could tell someone whats real
Then you begin to regain yourself, So many open wounds need to heal
But you choose to stay with him, and the thrashings go on still
Just another girl whose status is "in a relationship, but single"

Oh look at him over there standing all alone, no one on his arm
The one he chose left him because he was gifted with kindness but not charm
You see he was taught to respect a woman, care for her and love her deeply
Unfortunately the girls he always attracts find his chivalry rather creepy
He always sheds a tear when they tell him "You're a great guy, Let's be friends only"
Because he never hears from her again, Once again he feels lonely

Though he appears positive and is the epitomy of joy and laughter
Inside his heart there is such pain, a never healing scar
Over and over again he trips and falls and doubts himself and sobs
You see this boys a dreamer, its for true love that his heart throbs
Theres only one special girl, the mere mention of her name makes him tingle
Its because of her that when he finds himself in a relationship, deep down he is single

He knew he loved her before he liked her, before they met that night
For her face lit up when the eyes saw what the heart had desired without sight
They danced, made love and healed each other from across the room that evening
A look was enough, a smile was reward and the eye contact was amazing
So if you look into the eyes of the one your with and dont feel your eternal soul tingle
Then ask yourself the question, Am I in a relationship...or am I actually single!
