»A Sketch of Democracy«

by Christopher Kudyahakudadirwe

In the garage of my imagination
I mend a mangled manifestation
Of my politician brutalised life,
Spray-painting rust corroded ideas
Of a liberation struggle gone sour
While trying to salvage my elusive future.

I looked out of the window of destiny
To see a caricature of the down trodden
Sketched and crucified
On the democratic canvas.
From the balcony of the tower of despair
I espied affluence courting abject poverty
To the matrimony of democracy.

Under the persuasion of bloated pride
With shiny, shaven heads of ignorance
They ridicle political demise,
Brushing aside with impudence
The certainty of a new dispensation
Peeping through the pidgeon-hole of democracy
