»Separate Tables«

by Ryan Gordon Penn

At separate tables we sit down to meet,
Separate lovers who could never quite compete,
With the you I know and how you leave me wanting, needing,
I only wish we could agree to pursue this love we are both feeling.

I think about you and how you shine,
I think about you and know your mine,
Wondering if you think about me too,
Wonder if you see us together, just Me and You.

Because I – I need you here tonight,
Need your beautiful shining light,
and I will never let go or give up the fight.

In separate bedrooms we lay down to dream,
Separate dreams of us and our eternal love is the theme,
Waking up next to loneliness who knows no better,
Acting love so well, It belongs in the theatre,
If only we could just agree,
To read between the lines.

I want to see you and this time I will say the right thing,
Go down on bended knee and offer you a ring,
Because a ring has no end and no beginning, Like our love, Always,
We'd have to be crazy to throw it all away,
Never knowing what we've lost, Before it's way too late

Because I – I need you here tonight,
Need your beautiful shining light,
and I will never let go or give up the fight.

Yes I – I need you here tonight,
And if you'll have me by your side,
I swear I will never let go.

  •  Ryan Gordon Penn: "Thanks Hettie, You are very right. It is based on the song of the same name by Chris De Burgh. I changed the words and made it more personal for myself."
  •  Hettie Van Zyl: "This poem to me is like a beautifull song full of meaning You must try to sing it I did and I love it."
