»Tell me the secret«

by Tiema Muindi

I wanted to ask you
Even when in turmoil
Of your life
And all doors closed
That tomorrow's tunnel
Seemed to have no light
I wanted to ask you
Why did you still smile

I wanted to ask you
When your dreams
Have no glimmer of hope
When your efforts
Are just a drop
In the ocean
But still you go extra mile
I wanted to ask you
Why did you still smile

I wanted to ask you
Why you were so quite
And never hit back
Even when the chance
To put down your enemy
Was there for you
I wanted to ask you
Why did you still smile

I wanted to ask you
Is it that you had no tears
For I never saw them flowing
Is it that you knew no anger
For I never saw you annoyed
Even when your life was cloudy
And you couldn't see yonder
I wanted to ask you
Why did you still smile

(Dedicated to my mother Salama Nekesa Juma)
