»The race«

by Hettie Van Zyl

Inside or outside the can,
is it Apricot or jam.
Let's make a test to be sure.
On the outside looks like Apricot
but inside definitely not.
So don't throw it away, it is pure.

A broken heart from the inside,
the body fool the people outside,
nobody has ever made sure
about the girl who run the race,
who maybe looks like a boy in ways.
Don't take her medal away, she's pure.

  •  Christopher Kudyahakudadirwe: "That's what it is, Hettie. The imagery in the first stanza is just right."
