»This Life I Have Endured«

by Larry Lenwell

As I sit here all alone in a time of life's reflection
I look at things and realize, it never had a direction
Though decided by me that path I chose to journey
Sometimes ended up with these lone words, "you have the right to an attorney"

Shunned by many for what I have forsaken
There have been lives ruined and friendships taken
I ask myself why, why it had to be
A life so bad and in me, no one would believe

I have come to the crossroads with a decision to make
Do I turn right here or make another mistake
My life so far has been aimed at self destruction
Booze drugs and women have been my soul's abduction

I look around me now to see what I've collected
A history full of shame and guilt, and happiness undetected
I close my eyes each night I sleep and wish for a new beginning
But when I wake I find myself at the bottom of the ninth inning

They have to change, my thoughts and dreams and ways of past obsessions
I have to rid myself of strife and all those mind possessions
The thoughts of life so full, complete, without a hint of sorrow
Lets me hope and dream and pray that there comes a new tomorrow
