»If only they knew«
by Tiema Muindi
If only they knew
They wouldn't reach
Just meters away
The journey would end
If only they knew
They wouldn't last
Just after the honeymoon
The tension would begin
If only they knew
They wouldn't take it
Just as they part
Loneliness would set it
If only they knew
There will be war
Just after they started
Their ethnic rhetoric
If only they knew
He would forget them
Just after they voted
And chose him
As their leader
If only they knew
There will be tears
There will be laughter
There will be life
There will be death
If only they knew
There will be trust
There will be betrayal
There will be rain
There will be rainbow
If only they knew.
They wouldn't reach
Just meters away
The journey would end
If only they knew
They wouldn't last
Just after the honeymoon
The tension would begin
If only they knew
They wouldn't take it
Just as they part
Loneliness would set it
If only they knew
There will be war
Just after they started
Their ethnic rhetoric
If only they knew
He would forget them
Just after they voted
And chose him
As their leader
If only they knew
There will be tears
There will be laughter
There will be life
There will be death
If only they knew
There will be trust
There will be betrayal
There will be rain
There will be rainbow
If only they knew.
