»Discovery of Self«

by Thabani Ray Ngwenya

The quest for self discovery
Is along term obligation
Actually, you have what it takes
And more of what is needed
So adjust your mind to suit perfection
And you will see how much you can.

There is considerable satisfaction
In knowing what the society thinks about you
But this is an alley of character
Into the trash bin of hypocrisy
Find joy in being yourself.

Every new experience is unique
Perhaps this wise old one is right
Experience is the greatest teacher after all
It promotes an awakening of self
And reminds one of the past
As he looks into the future.

Playing to the gallery is detrimental
For it hinders exercise of sound reasoning
Firmness of character is admirable
A clown has everyone's attention
And yet, nothing for himself
Not even his face
He therefore has nothing to lose.
