»I believe«

by Thabani Ray Ngwenya

I believe that heaven exists
And am skeptical that hell was meant to be
I doubt that heaven is far away
Who knows, it could be as close as hell?
I am not a heathen
I believe.

I believe it is a good day
Good day ladies and gentlemen
I believe in abridged, meaningful speech
I will be as concise as possible
Allow me to square the circle.

I do not believe that profit is the best motive
In fact, I believe in self motivation
I believe that it is only those who believe
Who dare to rise above nonsense
I believe that I believe.

I believe in magic, superstition and enchantment
And that dreams are realistic fantasies
Passions, illicit obsessions
I believe in the power of thought and meditation
And in the invincibility of the mind.

I believe that actions speak louder than words
I believe that skill is mightier than strength
I also believe in a winning attitude
While losers always whine about doing their best
Winners take the prom queen home.

I believe everything we see is a form of art
Its beauty depends on how creative we are
My rose could be your thistle
Hence beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder
Quick believers need to take a closer look.

I do not believe that bullies are generally cowards
As they do not easily give up in a fight
I believe that prevention is better than cure
Do not jump onto a lion's back
And expect to dismount undevoured.

I believe there is a song for every season
And a rhyme for every reason
I believe there is someone for everyone
And that presents keep friendships warm
I believe seeing is believing
Open your intellectual eyes.
