»There goes my life«

by Thabani Ray Ngwenya

Try as I may
Everything comes to nothing
The harder I try the deeper I sink
One thing for certain
I do not believe in strange
How then do I explain this misfortune
And juggled up memory about the past?
There goes my life.

Life ahead is fast approaching a full stop
It is punctuated with infinite question marks
And underlined with the misfortune of my ignorance
A testimony of how I have been beguiled
Into boldly stepping into the grave
Regret is my favorite mistake
I am fully convinced more than ever
There goes my life.

Sometimes a man deceives himself
What a pitiful sight
He may well just give up trying
Instead of wasting his only life
In futile and awkward attempts
To display qualities he does not possess
There goes my life.
