Other poems by Thabani Ray Ngwenya:
»Shaken«
I am shaken like a reed
In winds of pandemonium and confusion
I am shamed like a toothless dog
That scares no one by its bark
I am cold in the heat of day
As if it were a chilly night
I am shaken off my feet.
They wish death upon me
I shake and shiver in fear
I quiver for no one vindicates me
Against my unseen adversaries
Our bone of contention I know not
But my weakness I must admit I am shaken.
Like scattered pieces of a puzzle
Are the thoughts of my mind
Maybe I need a fortune teller
I have not any luck at all
No trace of fortune too
My eyes are cold and restless
My integrity shaken as well.
Someone take my hand
Let me lean on your shoulder
Help me, anybody
I am falling, sinking
I am in need of strength
The plea of a despondent voice
The cry of a shaken man.
In winds of pandemonium and confusion
I am shamed like a toothless dog
That scares no one by its bark
I am cold in the heat of day
As if it were a chilly night
I am shaken off my feet.
They wish death upon me
I shake and shiver in fear
I quiver for no one vindicates me
Against my unseen adversaries
Our bone of contention I know not
But my weakness I must admit I am shaken.
Like scattered pieces of a puzzle
Are the thoughts of my mind
Maybe I need a fortune teller
I have not any luck at all
No trace of fortune too
My eyes are cold and restless
My integrity shaken as well.
Someone take my hand
Let me lean on your shoulder
Help me, anybody
I am falling, sinking
I am in need of strength
The plea of a despondent voice
The cry of a shaken man.
