»Hail Mary«

by Abdul Milazi

hail Mary full of grace
a virgin made to save face
gave her only son to save the world
save for today's illegitimate sons
sacrificed on the alter of shame to save face
for god so loved the world
is nothing but empty words
hail Mary full of grace
what a disgrace

hail Mary full of grace
god is the truth we seek
the reason we kill and maim the weak
sacrifice the innocence of a child for a second coming
scream from rooftops that Jesus is coming
our behaviour is unbecoming
but we are better than heathens in our shortcomings

hail Mary full of grace
confusion embraces my soul
as the church divides and rules
obsessed with which god was then
and which god is now
god of my yesterdays and tomorrows
what about today's sorrows?

hail Mary full of grace
I see guns and fools
in one-sided duels
suicide bombers die for one god
world powers kill for three-in-one
the innocent become collateral damage
in a numbers war of the damned

hail May full of grace
god is a rumour
started by someone with a sense of humour
when logic walks out the front door
he enters through the backdoor
and become as real as décor

  •  Adnasis Egnahs: "I kinda felt your opinion of God quickly in your second stanza when you wrote his name in Small letters whereas Mary was respected with a Capital letter."
