Those sad eyes had spoken
He stood there with them wide open
He stood there next to the ditch
Holding the fish, his face without expression
Hoping for someone to buy his only possession
No one knew what he had been through,
The pain and anguish to catch the fish
Just to make ends meet
He stood alone on the street
Watching the people go by
No one stopped to peep
They moved on through the sea of faces
He just waited
Alone he stood, only man on the street
He packed up and left and went to sleep
Without anything to eat
He stood there with them wide open
He stood there next to the ditch
Holding the fish, his face without expression
Hoping for someone to buy his only possession
No one knew what he had been through,
The pain and anguish to catch the fish
Just to make ends meet
He stood alone on the street
Watching the people go by
No one stopped to peep
They moved on through the sea of faces
He just waited
Alone he stood, only man on the street
He packed up and left and went to sleep
Without anything to eat
