»Life of an Unknown Man«

by Berto Kamp

You sit on the cobble edge
Scratching your bleeding leg
Dressed in rags
Somehow you appear to be glad
Your head tilted to the left
Hiding what you do just best
You eyes that no longer glisten in the day
As the sunlight dances across them slowly
A game that is played
I see your dirty nails, pull on your rags
Is it not a shame?
You that once was an educated man
Now your home is the barren land
No one cares, is this fair of man?

  •  Ashok Kumar Madhunlall: "The speaker doesn't want us to show disgust at the man dressed in ags but rather at society that allows this to happen. You have captured the daily visuals of life so very well. Keep writing."
  •  Hettie Van Zyl: "In between the lines this poem forced the reader to realize this person dirty and clothes in rags is also a human been lost somewhere along the road of life. Thank you for a master peace."
