»The Mind-Genie«

by Ashok Kumar Madhunlall

My contented smiles and reverie disturbed by the loud and intrusive pound,
"Who, just who can that be that dares my solitude and bliss thus disturb?"
Barrel-chested, bulging biceps, conceitedly the illusion strikes the curb,
He licks his lips, secure in thought that yet another victim he has found.
This dark phantom has traversed our world and has been much around,
Into the minds of the weak he enters, probing, growing, ready to perturb.
Dividing, sowing doubts, master at his deeds, is adroit and very superb,
Unaware of my strength, "Alas poor phantom my faith in God is sound!"

My smile grows, my Faith blossoms, and the shadowy figure vanish,
His ego smashed and all hopes dashed, into his dark world he retreats.
It is only in being positive and faithful that gloomy thoughts I can banish,
All forces from the nether world, with Faith and God, surely do defeats!
Just for a moment there, balance swayed, but my Faith in Him was lavish,
What was a mighty figure shrivels in ignominy, always the case with cheats.
