»Song Of Man«

by Tiema Muindi

If I can't make it tonight
Know that life forced me
To be
So that I could be
A man
Just like others
With smile on their faces
Each day back home
With a loaf of bread
For their family

If I can't make it tonight
Weep not for me
All your life
Block not
The flow of love
From your veins
Let not your life
Go with me
Beneath the earth

If I can't make it tonight
Don't tell them so
That which is the truth
Don't let them know
That which would break
Their hearts
That with blood
On my hands
Their bowl of food
Came from that

If I can't make it tonight
Know that
The scars and pain
You saw on my face
Reaches not deep
In my skin
Nor flow in my veins
That deep in me
Lies a human

If I can't make it tonight
Know the song of man?
That as soon as he's born
He begins to die
Remember thee
Those words
If I can't make it tonight
