»The Women I've Loved«

by Ryan Gordon Penn

Thinking back to the time before
Wondering why you walked out the door
Was it I or was it what I lacked?
Never once thought you wouldn't come back

Love is not quite love, when its not spelt right
Love is not quite love, when it is does not bring delight
Loving you was all I had, Now all I had is gone
Of all the women I've loved before, You were my number one.

Thinking back to that time and that place
The way you held yourself and others with such grace
The way I looked away from your resplendent stare
You were my love outstanding, I was your care

Love is not quite love, until it is written within the heart
Love is not quite love, if it is not strengthened by times apart
Loving you felt like freedom personified, the warmth of the sun
Of all the women I've loved, You were my number one.

Thinking of that time I went down on one knee
I gazed into your eyes and asked you to marry me
You were not ready and maybe you were too nervous
Breaking my heart by refusing my love's promise

Love is not quite love when it only comes halfway
Love is an emotion that forms between two naturally
Loving you became a duty more than a pleasure
Of all the women I've loved, I'm yet to find my treasure
