»In his shoes«

by Rofhiwa Netshiavha

Beautiful as I see myself,
Perfect as I perceive myself to be,
If I were given a chance to be him;
Just to stroll a while in his shoes,
Would I still see what I see now?
I just wonder if I were him;
Would I want to have and accept me?
If I were to take his shoes,
Would I see the beautiful smile?
The innocent face,
Would I see through my heart?
Would I long so much to hold me?
To comfort me;
Would I sense my pain from far?
See the hurt through my eyes;
Would my heart stop beating when I walk in the room?
Would I miss me so much?
When I'm only gone for a few seconds;
Would I sleep late reminiscing of what could be?
Would I want to run and catch me when I trip?
Would I walk boldly?
When all I see is me in the street;
If I could take just one day
And walk a mile in your shoes,
Would I see myself the way I like him to see me?
Would I hold my hand the way I like him to hold me?
If I were to walk in your shoes
Would I be the best man you are?
Would I ever fall in love with me...? I wonder
