»Game or Gamble«
Shall we toss the dice
Or draw another card
Are we taking turns
I find this game so hard.
If one of us must win
The other has to lose
Which one will you be
It seems that you can choose.
I know the stakes are high
I've tried to play before
Yet all the moves I've made
Don't even out the score.
Games are made for proving
Strategy and skill
Practising for perfect
To be top of the bill.
Why make a game of love
With winning as a goal
Playing with our hearts
Just takes a nasty toll.
Loving is a gamble
Of doubtful certainty
Why not just be you
And let me just be me
Why not just be honest
Tell the simple truth
It's harder to pretend
We learned that in our youth.
But everyone keeps playing
Dreaming up new rules
Few are really happy
So many feel like fools.
Experience has shown
That I won't play that game
That's why I am alone
With just myself to blame.
Or draw another card
Are we taking turns
I find this game so hard.
If one of us must win
The other has to lose
Which one will you be
It seems that you can choose.
