»Me and Cherry«
by Torgny Lilja
I.
Once, I knew a girl in New York City.
Cherry was the cutest chick there'd ever been,
But she was just married. Say, ain't that a pity?
Dan wasn't mere the biggest man you'd ever seen.
He was also really mean.
And I think he'd almost been to prison. --
Now, that husband used to work 'til late at night.
Then he went to any place where people would listen.
When he finally came home, he liked to fight,
And the neighbors got a fright.
II.
While I stayed at some cheap hotel with graffiti,
Me and Cherry met in an Italian restaurant.
She was having dinner in the central city
With some girlfriends from another continent,
And she looked quite elegant.
She was served a soup they call zucchini,
And then suddenly she spoke out loud to me:
"Do you like Puccini?" "No, but this panini
Definitely is one of my favorites, you see!"
"Such a beauty!" I thought. "Gee!"
