»Stargazing«

by Esther Odendaal

What if love would shine
As if it were a star
Right where we would see it
Even from afar.
Not quite understanding
How it came to be
Simply just accepting
The wonder that we see.
Knowing that it's there
Behind the thickest cloud
Even out of view
It would not wear a shroud.
What if love like star
Was born so long ago
An uncontrolled event
Surpassing all we know.
And if its birth so bright
Could stay alive this long
To make it through light years
We couldn't prove it wrong.
What if love's existence
Was hidden from our sight
Until we raised our gaze
In the dark of night.
