»eclipse - a ceremony of rebirth«
(by Moemise Motsepe)
for Bra Fikile Magadlela
i saw the moon and the sun
making love in the sky
above the south of africa
where the world gathered in
breathless wonder
i saw today the glow of a new promise
when a virgin impulse went into orbit
and we wandered into the eye of tomorrow?s glory
behind the shadow of yesterday?s dream
i saw the moon and the sun
in a passionate embrace
and i bowed my head
to the titans that govern fire and water
the king and the queen of flood and inferno
in the beginning was the sun
and the moon became the smile
at the end of creation?s labour
today
night and day came together
when the sun and the moon
locked their lips in the eclipse
and the world between dusk and dawn
turned the eye into a diamond
today is the birth of africa?s century
