»The Honey Voiced Girl«

by Gabriela Masson

I remember the smell of the night and the chill of it too
The soft floral scent that came off her skin
The others spoke and laughed around me, but all I loved was her voice and her laugh
She smiled shyly and told me her name
And her name was like the name of all the beauties I had ever known in one single word:
Jane
Her prettiness was subtle and so was the way that she watched me
When she spoke I couldn?t care for any other words but the ones that she said
They were the most important things that I can remember of that night
And as the fire burned, dancing on the skin of her face and shoulders and neck, sparkling in her dark eyes
I told her of me and who I was
But all I wanted to hear was her reply, that sweet voice that was so light and gentle
But the hours were too short and soon I had to leave
Leaving her there, having only her voice in my memory to hear those syrup sweet words spoken
I could not sleep that night and when I did only dreams of her filled my mind
When I woke up, I could only speak her name with happiness
And recall what she said with care for what it meant
And so you see, I can not go another day, another sixty minutes, another painful second without seeing her again
Hearing her voice and reciting her name over and over and over
Jane, Jane, Jane...
I am in love with her
I am in love with the honey voiced girl.
