»Page through the sores of my heart«

by Mercy Buhle Mhlaba

Today I finally let it out
Walk with me on this path of agony
Wince with pain when you hear me cry
Hold my hand when I shake with fear
Say nothing 'cause it may come out wrong
Just feel my pain and let it show

Today I reopen the wounds of the days gone by
Read the story of my past hurts from my face
Because words have lost meaning
Reach out and feel the depth of my scar
Hold on a little longer and you may feel
The excruciating sound of a rippled organ,
That organ is my heart...dripping with blood

I won't let you shut me out
So let me see the tears flow down your cheeks
I will interpret the emotion from your body
So let me feel your uncontrollable spasms
I will know when you are on the edge of breaking down
So let me help you tear your hair apart

See I know the ways of hurt,
What it means to lose at love,
To have despair knock at my door,
And to have my heart crushed...
So until I see you wilt with pain, I will not stop.
Until I hear you sob for healing, I will not stop.
Until I feel you succumb to emotions, I will not stop....
I swear I will not stop till you page through the sores of my heart.
