»Shape shift killer«

by Gabriela Masson

The rain washes away the blood
As I sit here collapsed
It is the blood of my victim
Whose face is fading
But essence has become mine
I look through your eyes
Law man and laugh as you try to catch me in my favourite game
I leave you clues that are spelt in cryptic ways
And lead you down paths
That are dead ends
You become obsessed with me
While your perfect suburbia that is my camouflage
Runs scared
Locking their doors and drawing their curtains
Trying to fool themselves that they are safe from me
As I swallow the sun
And paint a red ring around the moon
And dance my macabre steps with my corpses
Your fascination with me is endless
So is the fear that is the invisible creature in your mind
But I know your brain while you pick at it
Because I am both the ghost and everyday individual
You think you catch a glimpse of me
But I am only the common man on the street
You swear you hear my breath
Yet it is only the howl of the wind
As I fade into the elements
Before I strike again the hungry beast
And prey upon you the lamb
For I am no horrid looking monster
Or indescribable fiend
I am the friendly next door neighbour
Or the sophisticated business man
I am whatever you see me as
The shadow on the wall
Or blackened sky
I am the shape shifter
Of the eye
I am the shape shift killer
Who leaves only the crime scene
And the headlines that plague your head
I am famous
And so are those who are dead
I say goodbye with a whisper
And a stab of the knife
I am the murderer who infects your dreams
And I am the villain in your real life comic book
I am what you hide the children from
When I hold them in my arms and rock them to sleep
While you call me your friend
Unaware of my supposed disease
I am the ruler of your nightmares
I am the silence of happiness
And the cry of your tears
With me I bring death
And then run into the night
To elude you once again
So you can fight the good fight
Yes law man come and find me
In my distorted world
Where you lose yourself and lose your family
I am the churchgoer
Who pays my tithe
I confess my sins
But the priest is sworn to secrecy
While you hunt in your homes
And the homes of others for the man that is me
I am whatever is accepted, I am the norm
In the daylight I am an average man
But a real Freddy Kruger in the darkness
I drag my victim into the wood
To unite with its bark veil
It is I the shape shift killer
Catch me if you can see my true form
If the rain doesn?t wash it away to join the river of society...
