»I love Poetry«

by Marcia Nonkululeko Tladi

I love poetry
The pen that cajoles a phantom
A vivid picture painting of imagined things
The mind so often needs a tease

So let?s talk of life with the scrutiny of wise fools
Who know but what their eye sees
Only in books for stern academics

But for the dreamer
Who builds castles in the air
Draws a curtain to her life?s opera at closing chapters
But continues its script in magic colours
Even when scenes are tragic

For the dreamer
Let?s talk of love
In a manner grand or wanton
Animate intangible fancies
Jagged lines that fall outside the frame?s borders
Their shade, at times a deliberate blur
Tame the fable, derive the sweet of pain
And sit the words twisted or upside-down hanging
To break the norms that conform

I love poetry
A free spirit
The shape of wild horses chasing stray winds
Or poetry, the figure of a sonnet
The incestuous lyric of a song
Poetry, my heart?s passion in a waltzing breath
An enchanted dance to the gods
And
Sometimes the words a lullaby sing
Sometimes the ?.
And sometimes, the phrase a mantra chants
And sometimes the phrase, a mantra chants
And sometimes the phrase a mantra, chants
And sometimes.. the phrase a mantra chants

I love poetry
Unbounded witness to a dreamer?s voyage
