»Eclipse the Soul«
by Abdul Milazi
one night I saw eternity
an endless sea of light
beautiful and bright
time floating in hours and days infinite
not a shadow moved
a cloud hung heavy upon my soul
a thick fog born of daybreak
sad eclipses of my soul in apocalypse
I tried to shout
no sound from my mouth
I saw my reflection in your tears
yours in mine
I saw things invisible
touched things intangible
I wanted to cry
The inferno raged within
all vestiges of fear burnt
its tentacles clung to my heart
leeches to an open sore
I was blinded by the darkness
my heart holding the sharp edge of the sword
for fear of death
sold its fate to the hangman
for fear of living
can love cure this terror of dying by poisoned passion?
will death come in one night of reckless pleasure?
there are odds to mull over
joy and death making love
burning in the middle like a hollow reed
these daily musing are death
living in the shadow of bereavement
delighting in a lady?s arms
I wait for death to break down my door
boldly welcome him at the front gate

Mashell Chapeyama: "what I liked about your poem is the fusion of reality with abstractness. i like tha combinantion. I have enjoyed such writing from a popular Zimbabwean Writer Dambudzo Marechera."
