»The Flame«

by Abdul Milazi

in the night around my life
the candle flame flickers attracting insects
it is moths who mostly come to dance around it
a frenzy of love
they fall softly on the table
dizzied or maybe exhausted
the flame beckons
they pick up their wings and take the floor
for another dance

they shimmy up the flame
lose their wings
one last fall
one last dance
they watch the flame
beckoning
the candle flame flickers
the silence screams
screams of torment or pleasure
who knows
it is hard to tell

the candle flame flickers
the night screams
I bury my face in my palms
my thoughts take flight
join the moths around the flame
you are that flame
