»A Painting in Discord«
by Thifulufhelwi Ronald Ramabulana
Tell the story of marauding warriors
Of libations and rituals
Of traditions and cultural practices
Like your life depends on it
Sing the riveting songs
Of battle fronts laden with victory
And armies never conquered in vanity
Like a lion on a hunting field
Tell the story of suffering
On prickly landscapes of poverty
On the ravaged African hinterland
Like a poet, a conscience of humanity
Craft the story of painful existence
Of children in Zimbabwe and Sudan
With the finesse and marked melody
Of artistic expression and religious passion
Listen to the voice from the down deep
Raising shadowy messages from the past
For comprehension in the bleak future
Like a messenger who cannot fail his King
Tell this story, which is the story
In words that will excite the listener
And bring pride to our village
Where fallen warriors beg for recognition
Sing this song, the song of glory
In tunes that will send vibrating echoes of melody
That will defy all historical catastrophes
To inspire future generations of Africans
Dance to it soothing rhythm
Like a poet of the soul that rules the waves
And glides through the turbulent skies
To deliver messages of African excellence
Sing this song, like an African.
Of libations and rituals
Of traditions and cultural practices
Like your life depends on it
Sing the riveting songs
