»I will be here«

by Mthunzikazi Mbungwana

The Dams will overflow and dry up
The Sun will rise and set
The Moon will visit and vanish
The streams will form Rivers
Then Rivers will form Lakes
Then Lakes will develop to Oceans
I will be here

The skimmers will lie and manipulate the Situation
Break my bones
Bruise my flesh
Hurt my feelings
Bring tears of bitterness to my eyes
From my bleeding heart
I will be here

My future will be threatened
Bad publicity stunts will be pulled
To drag my name in pig's mud
To defame and erase my name
To undermine my intelligence
To take away my self-worth
I will become desperate and destitute
I will curse the day I was born
I will curse every human being
I have ever rested my shoulders on
I will doubt my Creator's presence
I will pose rhetorical questions
As derogatory remarks are passed
I will be ruled out
I will be here

I will rise and stand on my feet again
I will walk and climb mountains and valleys again
I will bask in the sun again
I will swim with the Sharks again
With blisters on soles of my feet
Deteriorating health status, cracked lips
Strained eyes from watching my back
I will start all over again
I will smile again
My inner being will be soothed again
My confidence will be re-injected again
There will be spring in my everystep again
I will live. I will survive
I will manage. I will prosper
I will be here
