»Unclean«

by Laetitia Smith

"Take my hand."
He said,
That fateful day,
When the roses
Were crushed,
And I was betrayed.

By the hand that roamed,
My innocent flesh.
And pushed up the material of
My cotton dress.

Stealing away my
Precious gift,
Causing my mind to drift...

The gift
Which should
Have been locked away.
I wanted to protect it,
But frozen,
I lay...

Helpless, in a death-grip,
Which still haunts my dreams.
I sobbed in silence,
Trust dying in me.

Silence filled each day
Since then,
A secret I kept locked within.
Knowing,
I can't erase his fingerprints
From my skin.
