»Pride and greed«

by Mthandazo Lucky KaDlodlo

Even the sussuration of the rattling train,
Could not drown the rat-toot-toot of the machine gun salvo,
Bodies lay riddled with gapping holes,
A woman lay dead, a breast showing, knickers down to her knees,
You dared not think beyond what you were seeing, what else had happened to this lot,

As one soldier swaggered away from the carnage,
His trouser zip still open,
i felt revulsion and angst,
For him these were the spoils of war,
But what war?,This was a country in 'war' at peace time,

As the contents of my lunch came back where they had gone in,
i regurgitated with such force, i felt even my testicles shake in their scrotal sacs,
black continent, black leaders,
Black ideologies, black corruption,
Black soldier, black victim, black blood, black bloke, black bleak, bleak, bleak,

I woke with a sweat on my brow,
And thanked God, it only had been but a dream.....
