»what it is«

by Alieux Casey

I
will not be lonely
anymore.
I
don't know how
or when;

like phyllis hyman said

(despite what she
did)

soon
I will not be lonely; I refuse
to wake up having the bed the house the car the dogs the cats my life
all to myself
much longer
I have got to react
differently/
will count the days
I will
get out of my
skin
(perhaps be more
tolerant)
crawl into someone else's
somehow
I will not miss out anymore
while not shedding that tear that even now
is on the edge of my tear ducts
I will be the life of parties
I will be on the top of invite lists
for parties and other social events
I will
somehow act
upon that which makes me lonely

(but first,
I gotta know what
it
is)
