»Midnight Dreaming«

by Abdul Milazi

in the middle of the night
when the time is right
I find time to cry
I cry because I am alone
in this civilisation of things
treasured friends come at a cost

I pray at the alter of music
I lose myself
there's music that transports you to fairyland
there's music you hum
sing-along with
there is music that commands silence

my heart hears the lyrics with every note
the music takes me to the pain
a nice kind of pain
the pain of finally understanding an emotion completely
eventually becoming the emotion
joy becomes tears
elevating
suspended above earth
I am no longer human
just a spiritual being looking down

rain gushes over the gutters
in a hurry to hit the earth
no time to flow down the spout
sight and sounds of the heavens
washing away the day's worries
memories return running
splashing and giggling
carefree as a child
