»To Bob Dylan«
by Linda Lubner
The entertainer in you much less
The poet or the moral man--
Continues to fill our common sense
Plus many books however dense.
And this is as it should be.
You entertain both us and you
Surely there is some kind of clue
That would explain the two--But
If I held my breath till I knew
I'd turn blue!
Your pronouns hang in open air
For meanings--so here I stare
At words of every hue--But beware!
To understand complete would lose its punch.
And so I will just keep my hunch.
You like the sound of words to say.
Me too, although you have a way
Of dappling their display
Through many leaves of light.
Yet this is as it should be.
God's gift to one is so sublime
A lighted hill for all to climb.
But this I know and that is I'm
So thankful that you're not a mime!
The poet or the moral man--
Continues to fill our common sense
Plus many books however dense.
And this is as it should be.
You entertain both us and you
Surely there is some kind of clue
That would explain the two--But
If I held my breath till I knew
I'd turn blue!
Your pronouns hang in open air
For meanings--so here I stare
At words of every hue--But beware!
To understand complete would lose its punch.
And so I will just keep my hunch.
You like the sound of words to say.
Me too, although you have a way
Of dappling their display
Through many leaves of light.
Yet this is as it should be.
God's gift to one is so sublime
A lighted hill for all to climb.
But this I know and that is I'm
So thankful that you're not a mime!
