»Two Minute Celebrity«

by John Paragreen

Victims queue in rows upon rows
Brainwashed by T.V. talent shows
Fodder for the shrewd bloodsuckers
Trinkets to self esteem abductors.

Manufacturing rivers of tears
As the ultimate descision nears
It's unsightly and slighlty profane
When nirvana depends on fame.

There's no value in virtue
Pride or integrity
They cascade into the shade
For a two minute celebrity.

Rehearsing songs from a note pad
While their hero sleeps in rehab
Masters of self deception
Courting pavements to rejection.

Egged on by friends and relations
High on de'lusive expectations
They chew their fingernails to the quick,
But as the cameras zoom in
They penetrate the toughest skin
With the subtlety of a toothpick.

There's no value in virtue
Pride or integrity
They cascade into the shade
For a two minute celebrity.
