»Dance Movements«

by Dilindile William Maphosa

Bursts of energy propel images
in airborne seamless movement,
with contort torsos, feisty feet and fast paced steps,
profound sounds pervading the expansive air
as musical notes invade the receptive souls,
limbs and hips momentarily sway in limbo
as rhythmic spasms of sinews
merge with surging legs

Meanwhile; contours of faked faces
that feign realities on stage
define a troupe of dancers
going through determined paces,
making dance movements of aces
that have been mastered through the ages

These dance movements of many a lifetime
tell stories of the pounding steps
of destiny, churning out its definite strides
across the sands of time,
time that is running out for earth life itself

Yet still, hard at work, the busy bodies continue apace,
unabated, they radiate and sparkle
as though polished by their seeping sweat

Delightful spectators cajole and cheer,
unaware that the pageantry spectacle
will reach its finale
with a musical crescendo,
or a fading, melancholic melody

For winners: the ultimate crown of success,
and for losers: the dreaded gloom and doom of failure
