Other poems by Hettie Van Zyl:
»She cried«
He picked her up this morning
a tear was in her eye.
Without hearden her futhermore
he simply asked her why she cried.
He did not expect her answer
when she started to say,
"I have loved you
long before this day"
He put his arms around her
and kissed her sweet face
telling her he was sorry
if her precious years he has wasted.
She looked at him and he could see
a sparkle in her eye.
She said, "Don't you worry, we still have
a few more years before we die"
It was then that he realized
the reason why she cried.
It was because they only still had
a few more years before they'd die.
He looked down into her rimpled face
thinking about his own grey hair,
of the black ones
there was not a single trace.
Then he looked at her, and she could see,
the sparkle in his eye
when he said "Don't you worry,
we still have a few more years before we die"
And then again he realized
the reason why she cried.
It was because they only still had
A few more years before they we going to die.
a tear was in her eye.
Without hearden her futhermore
