»Another Gospel«

by Buduziri Owhonda, December 5, 2016

may god forgive my impertinence
as it is no fault of mine
only this freedom that he's given me
it made me do this
that I tell it as it's been:

intact were our abilities as we were led
on empty stomachs and unkempt visages
purging our souls of what sanity is left
and looking on the brethren with unrepentant suspicions;
and this way that we must go,
yet enriching these cows of bashan
glorying in loud selflessness
and commiting suicides before we are dead
because he's said so

yes! they said he said so
them with heaven-given authority
great watchers they are;
blind as they are
we follow with eyes wide open
because we have great faith
that he only speaks to us through them
after all, faith is all that is required

they sit in their covens
with hordes of our commonwealth
and in tailor-made ensembles,
they fabricate and refashion prefabricated messages
tailor-made lies just for us

they said prosperity comes
only when we give to the lord
wholeheartedly and never begrudgingly
and now the lord has need
of a school, complex buildings and new rides
also special seeds by us
to be tended to and watered
in the lord's vineyard

the lord has a whole lot of needs
and he's promised to provide for us
according to his riches in glory
but the lord most of all needs our faith.
