  • Alfred "Wadada" Mahlangu on »Identity (On being a moron)« by Thifulufhelwi Ronald Ramabulana:
"I have the priviledge of having drank from the calabash of African Wisdom from whence these lyrical missives are flowing. Thank You, Skhumba-man, for sharing this deep verse with us. Robert Nesta Marley (otherwise known as Bob Marley to the uninitiated) captures the same missive when he says "you running// and you running// and you running away. But you cannot run from yourself.." The nutty dread also admonishes that "None but ourselves can free our minds..." Skhumba echoes the same message when he opines that "You are your own hostage..." The saddest part is that what we call ourselves is no longer anchored in any solid anchor, our African Values, points of reference and knowledge systems. We are not alone in this... the rest of humanity is reeling from the wanton gluttony of consumerism and materialism. This is the new god of the 20th - 21st century."
  • David Maake on »Identity (On being a moron)« by Thifulufhelwi Ronald Ramabulana:
"You just made me wish I still had plenty of time to a Stylistics criticism (analysis) on this poem like I used to do at varsity. If you were not a proud African, I'd liken you to Shakespeare or William B Yeats...but since I can't, I will think of great AFrican authors, the Ngugis', the Chinua's et al. A great piece of writing, moVenda wa hashu, Ndaa!"
