Duska Vrhovac

Biography

Duska Vrhovac, poet, writer, journalist and translator, born in 1947 in Banja Luka, ex Yugoslavia. She graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Belgrade University. She has worked in various media and has worked for major newspapers. She has been an author and editor of radio and television broadcasts. A journalist by profession, at the highest level of professional qualifications, she left her job with the RTS (Radio Television of Serbia) to work as a writer and freelance journalist. She lives in Belgrade, Serbia.
Duska Vrhovac is a member of the Association of Writers of Serbia (Member of the Board for International Relations), of the International Federation of Journalists, of the Association of Journalists of Serbia and of the Association of Literary Translators of Serbia, and she is Ambassador to Serbia by Poets of the World (Poetas del Mundo).
She has published 16 books of poetry, many of which have been translated, in part or in full, in 17 languages (English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Russian, Chinese). She is considered one of the the most important contemporary poets in Serbia. She has received important awards for poetry and the “gold badge” for the “generosity, dedication, perseverance and creative contributions that are made to spread the culture of the nationalities of the Republic of Serbia."
